Frequently Asked Questions
What data does Soft Launch access?
Soft Launch reads heart rate, sleep, date of birth, and intake data (hydration, caffeine, alcohol) from Apple Health. It writes only the intake entries you explicitly log. All data stays on your device — nothing is sent to a server.
Why are my cardio zones empty?
Soft Launch needs heart rate data from workouts recorded by an Apple Watch, Oura Ring, or another HealthKit-compatible device. If you don't see any zone data, make sure your device is writing heart rate samples to Apple Health.
Why does my sleep data look wrong?
Soft Launch attributes each night of sleep to the day you woke up and merges overlapping samples from multiple sources. If you see unexpected numbers, check Apple Health to confirm what sleep data is being recorded by your devices.
How are my zone boundaries calculated?
Zone 2 and Zone 3 boundaries are calculated using the Karvonen formula, which uses your age and resting heart rate to find personalized thresholds. This is more accurate than a flat percentage of max heart rate.
What if I delete the app?
Any intake entries you logged (water, caffeine, alcohol) are written to Apple Health and will survive app deletion. Your cached zone and sleep history is stored on-device and will be rebuilt from Apple Health data the next time you install.
Does Soft Launch work without an Apple Watch?
For sleep and intake tracking, yes. For cardio zone tracking, you need a device that records heart rate data to Apple Health during workouts — Apple Watch, Oura Ring, or a compatible chest strap.
